TRIBE - these are your people
Your people will laugh with you, not at you.
Your people will say good things behind your back and bad things to your face.
Your people won’t disappear when times get tough.
Your people will stay loyal.
Your people will listen.
Your people will show up.
Your people won’t care whether you’re rich or poor.
Your people have your back.
Your people won’t be easy to find.
But you must find your people.
It will take time.
You’ll think you’ve found them, and then realise you haven’t.
They won’t be who you expect.
They could be anywhere but you’ll likely find your true Tribe when you find Yourself. They will be the ones who just get you. No explanations needed.
I think I’ve found 6.
One of these 6 is Cara.
Not only is she my friend. She is my financial planner. You will see her make an appearance on my socials regularly because our roads are constantly crossing. Cara wears several hats in my life - financial planner, friend, dog-sitter, counsellor.
But the giveaway that she is a true member of my Tribe is she just gets me. The real me.
She calls out my bullsh*t. She celebrates my wins and compassionately listens to my heartaches. We can talk for hours about business strategy, which for some would be a downright bore. We are nerds in a solopreneurial pod and I can say anything to her and the judgement will be minus-nil. I know this because I have shared some pretty deep stuff over the years and she has never run away from me.
Cara started her Financial Planning business, Bounce Financial just around the time that I ventured out on my own as an independent Buyer’s Agent.
We’ve been on this women in business journey together for 9 years now and I thank the networking gods that we met.
I’ve learnt so much from her over the years and her success has inspired me to keep going in times when I wanted to crawl under a rock and give up. I remember a time a few years ago when I leaned on her heavily with some business decisions I needed to make and just having that sounding board who I could wholeheartedly trust was a huge blessing.
So remember this. It’s one thing to sign up to a networking group in an attempt to “buy” your Tribe. It’s a whole other ballgame when you just find these people because you are staying true to You. When you know yourself and let the real you shine through, your Tribe will naturally be drawn to you. Yes, we met through a networking group initially, but our commonalities went way beyond the first layer of women in business.
These are the magical people who move from Reason and Season, to become a permanent part of that Lifetime crowd.
Make it your mission in life to attract these people and do whatever you can to hold onto them.
